About Us
The "madness" as some would call it, started early 2002...The first addition wasn't a gerbil,
but a guinea pig name Cleo that came from a local shelter.  At that same shelter, there
was a pair of gerbil brothers also available that caught my eye.  They were so lively,
jumping the wall in the center of their cage.  After careful consideration, I decided to adopt
Hershey and Chocolate.  That was the beginning of what has be a continuous journey.
Hershey passed away later that year and Chocolate needed a friend.  Soon to come were
Coco, Cinnamon and Smores and many more have followed since.  Gerbils are wonderful
animals that need a lot of love (but are simple to care for). The need a friend or two, love
and attention from their human, clean bedding, water, food, and TP tubes galore to chew
on (paper for nests and toys are appreciated to..  In Jan 2003 I joined the American Gerbil
Society in order to learn more and join a community that understands the passion, and
compassion, for these fabulous creators.  I have been to (and hosted) gerbils shows and
even won a few ribbons over the past
7 (has it really been 7) years.

Other animals have also made their way into my heart.
Hamsters:
Due to the influence of other kennels that were "multi-critter" I soon added both Dwarf and
Syrian Hamsters to the group.  I have had Campbell, Winter White, Robo Hamsters in the
past but  I only have Robo's at this time.  My Syrian (Teddy Bear Hamsters) are down to
just a few but they make wonderful pets (two notes:  they are excellent escape artists, and
the SOLITARY and need their own cage).
At this time I do not plan to breed any hamsters.
Rats:
Over the last few years, I had heard how wonderful and intelligent rats were.  I debated
on them for  a long time due to additional care and attention that they require.  But a few
years ago, two showed up on my doorstep in a large popcorn tin.  Brownie and Hoodie
were a pair of loving girls that brightened lives and changed minds (some people just
can't get past the tails until they realize how fun and intelligent they are).  When Brownie
passed away Pam, Sandy, and Squinty joined Hoodie.  They have since passed away.
We currently don't have any rats in the kennel, but hope to again one day.
Double Star Kennels
Guinea pigs:
Cleo also started a love of guinea pigs that carries on to this day, she was 4 or 5 years old
when I got her and passed away during that summer (we had 8 wonderful months
together).  Two additions came to the kennel following her death, there were many piggies
for adoption at the shelter that month and Princess & Precious came to live with me.
Both
girls have
since passed away but I will always remember them.
I also currently have one cat  and it will likely stay that way, Pumpkin (AKA Momma Cat) is
an extremely territorial girl that has been with me for about 5 years how (she was the
neighborhood cat that adopted me :)
